#MCM - Brandon Coleman, WR, New Orleans Saints

My man crush monday this week is Saints second-year WR Brandon Coleman. If you don’t know of my man crush for Brandon Coleman, then you clearly haven’t been reading my stuff for very long. I have had a well documented man crush on the 6’6” 220 lb monster since I began researching for my dynasty startup draft 4 months ago.
Coleman towers over defenders at 6’6” and he runs a 4.56, which is identical to the 6’7” Jimmy Graham’s 40 time. Coleman also finished second among WR in the 2014 combine with 21 bench reps, giving reason to believe he could be an effective physical threat in the red-zone. Coleman showed impressive playmaking ability in college along with the ability to be a TD machine - he averaged nearly 22 yards per catch and scored on one out of every 5 receptions in 3 years at Rutgers.
Coleman has the number 3 spot locked up for the Saints, which can be a very productive position for the Saints. Last season’s number 3, Kenny Stills, finished the year with 63 catches for 931 yards and 3 TD. Now consider the fact that red-zone monster Jimmy Graham is on to Seattle, and that Coleman is a 6’6” athletic freak. Would you really be surprised if Coleman posted a 800 yard, 6 TD season? I think that’s his floor if he remains the #3 WR. Now let’s examine his ceiling:
Most people project that the top 3 targets for the Saints will be Brandin Cooks, Marques Colston, and CJ Spiller. Cooks still hasn’t proven anything at the pro level, and is a small WR who has yet to show he can handle a heavy workload. Colston is now 32 years old and has seen his yards per game decline the past three seasons. CJ Spiller could be an interesting weapon for Payton, but like Cooks, has serious injury concerns. If even one of those three underperforms or gets hurt, that means even more work for Coleman.
Coleman showed off his ability this weekend, catching 4 of his 7 targets for 43 yards and a TD. His touchdown was especially impressive. He ran a simple 5 yard out, caught the ball, made a spin move to lose his defender, and showed off impressive body control, using his hand to catch himself on the turf before sprinting down the sideline and diving into the end-zone past two defenders for the score.
The time to get Coleman cheap is closing quickly. He’s already solidified himself as one of the top red-zone options on an offense that’s going to be scoring a lot. I think it’s only a matter of time before he demands more of Marques Colston’s targets and becomes a threat to post 100 yard games on top of having elite TD potential. Go get him while you still can, the dude’s gonna be a stud!
