#MCM- Eric Decker, WR, New York Jets
-Hoover26 November 8
Eric Decker has been a beast so far this year for the surprisingly talented New York Jets. Decker was, on average, the 30th wide receiver taken in fantasy football leagues (espn.com). However, he is the seventh ranked wide receiver in Defense-adjusted Value Over Average (footballoutsiders.com). Decker has really surpassed expectations for this year. With new quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick (Featured Fitz already in one of our #TBT) throwing the ball very well, Decker has seen plenty of opportunity to score fantasy points. He has certainly taken advantage of those chances, as he has scored a touchdown in four of his last five games (six on the year).
Even while splitting targets with Brandon Marshall, Decker has managed to get more than his fair share of work in. Plenty of people saw Decker as a product of Peyton Manning’s productive years in Denver. But Decker, who is in his second year with the Jets, has proven that he can be fantasy relevant with a more “average” quarterback (nothing against Ryan Fitzpatrick, but he isn’t Peyton Manning).
With the Jets having one of the easier remaining schedules in the league (footballoutsiders.com), Decker looks to not only sustain, but possibly surpass his previous strong play. Plus, Brandon Marshall has a few minor nagging ailments, which could send Decker’s workload even higher than it has been thus far.
Eric Decker is no fantasy fluke. His numbers in Denver didn’t lie, and neither do his numbers in New York. Eric Decker is this week’s #MCM, as nobody is more deserving!
