#TBT - Eli Manning, QB, New York Giants, Age 34
-Hoover26 November 5
Eli Manning is, for lack of a better term, a fantasy enigma. He is the fourth ranked fantasy quarterback (per nfl.com scoring) this year, the tenth last year, and twenty-first the year before. Nobody (including the Giants) can get an accurate read on Eli’s value.
However, playing the 34 year old quarterback can obviously have benefits, as his six touchdown game last week certainly proves. Eli seems to be having one of his best fantasy years, as his stats show. He is on pace for his third highest yardage total, most touchdowns, highest completion percentage, and fewest interceptions (pro-football-reference.com). He also has a young, talented group of receivers that includes Odell Beckham Jr., Rueben Randle, Dwayne Harris and (when healthy) Victor Cruz.
Eli has been known as a major interception thrower over the years, which hurt his fantasy value. However, Eli is on pace to throw only eight this season, which is a far cry from the 27 he had in 2013. Many fantasy owners breathed a sigh of relief when he lowered that number to fourteen last year. But imagine, what if he could get it down to eight, while raising his touchdown numbers and completion percentage? He would be a top fantasy guy. That is exactly what Eli is primed to do this year.
Get ready for a throwback year from Eli Manning, and don’t quit on him after bad games. Remember he threw 25 interceptions in 2009, and came back to throw for almost 5,000 yards the next season. So many times, people (including myself) have said that Eli was done. Then, he goes and proves everyone wrong by playing like the Eli that won a pair of Super Bowls. Here we go again.
