#MCM- Javorius "Buck" Allen, RB, Baltimore Ravens
@Hoover__26 December 7
As far as rookie running backs go, this season is one of the better ones in recent memory. Todd Gurley became a star overnight for the Rams. David Johnson came close to a one hundred yard game this week. Thomas Rawls has been stellar for Seattle, not to mention guys like Karlos Williams, T.J. Yeldon and Jeremy Langford. However, one of the latest rookie backs to break out was Javorius “Buck” Allen. His play in relief of the injured Justin Forsett has been tremendous, and he keeps improving with every snap.
Buck Allen played his college ball at USC, where he was said to be a legitimate Heisman candidate. After being drafted by Baltimore, it seemed like Allen would only find carries on random plays as a change of pace guy. However, with Justin Forsett out for the year, Allen is now the full time starter. Plus, with Matt Schaub starting in place of the injured Joe Flacco, Allen has even more weight on his shoulders. In Buck’s monster game against Miami, the yardage he produced was nearly half of the entire offense (espn.com). Usually that means either your running back is really good, or the rest of your team is really bad. Often times, it has been a little bit of both for the Ravens. Matt Schaub is cementing his place in history, making a run for the most pick sixes thrown (if he keeps playing, he might get there), so the philosophy for Baltimore is run and hope your defense holds.
Buck Allen is now officially a RB1 option. If he keeps improving at the pace he’s going, we may be looking at something even better. This week’s #MCM Buck Allen is the next generation of great backs, keep an eye on him (I know I will)!
