#MCM- Rodney Hood, SG, Utah Jazz
@Hoover__26 January 4
This week’s #MCM, Rodney Hood is one of the emerging stars in the NBA. The second year guard out of Duke is finding a place in the very young Jazz backcourt, which isn’t an easy thing to do. He had to contend with prospects like Trey Burke, Alec Burks and Raul Neto, which drove his stock down early in the year. However, with Burks being sidelined with injury and Neto taking a reserve role, Hood has stepped up and proved that he deserves to be given a long look in all fantasy formats. He is coming off a monster 32 point, 8 rebound game against a generally tough Memphis team, and figures to turn in another strong stat sheet against Houston tonight.
Hood is the complete package, which makes him valuable in pretty much all scoring formats. His rebounding has increased along with his minutes, and he managed to hit 5 three pointers in his last game. Assists may be his weakest category right now, but as the defenses start to respect him more, watch for those to spike as well. He also averages one steal per game, and has blocked a shot in his last three games. Hood has turned in two consecutive 40+ fantasy point performances (per espn.com scoring), and with Alec Burks out for what looks like a while, I see no signs of him stopping. With Derrick Favors, the team’s star big man, also nursing an injury, the door is wide open for Hood to give you some fantastic numbers.
Rodney Hood is this week’s #MCM, and he deserves to be recognized as a very relevant fantasy player. He is starting to get that recognition, as his ownership percentage has jumped over 15%. However, he is still available in about 75% of espn.com leagues. If you are holding on to a fantasy bust (can I hear Ty Lawson?), you may want to consider jumping on the Rodney Hood bandwagon. He is getting over thirty minutes per game, and making the most of them. What more could you ask?
