Top Week Fourteen Quarterbacks
@RJ_Kasper December 12
Ben Roethlisberger @ Cin ($6800) – I love the pricing on DK sometimes. Ben is one of my favorite targets this week (and last week). People aren’t completely dumb; they know Ben is good despite having a bad game against Cincy last time. I expect him to be between 15-20% owned and behind Russell Wilson and Cam Newton. Cincy is ranked 13th against the pass but has some injuries in their secondary, which makes this a juicier matchup than historical stats lead you to believe. I love Ben in cash, though I prefer to pay down, and he is excellent in GPP. Go contrarian elsewhere and roster Big Ben for big points.
Andy Dalton vs Pit ($6600) – Remember when it was all the Dalton all the time? Time to go back to the well. Last week I had a good run with a Pitt/Indy stack in the milly maker (not as good as the guy that won it all). My problem was going contrarian with the Hasselbeck/Moncrief stack. This week that stack is Dalton/Green and I am certain I will have exposure to it in the $3 milly. Pit is 29th against the pass (only the Giants, Saints, and Colts are worse), which is a great spot to attack. It is easy to stack the Pittsburgh guys, but throw in some Bengals and enjoy the fireworks from this game. It easily will top the last time these two played.
Jameis Winston vs NO ($5500) – Jameis has developed very well this season and is playing at the level I expected coming in as the number one overall pick. I love it because it is also great for fantasy. Wait that is how I started this same segment in Week 12… it still holds true. And now he goes against the worst pass D in the league. I am worried that TB gets a lead and runs the ball a ton, so I am on Winston in GPP only. I really want to play him in cash, but NO had a few significant injuries this week on offense that scares me from the risk. He's a great GPP play, but will be highly owned as people like to attack this D. Read on for a similar QB in a plus matchup with much lower ownership.
Blake Bortles vs Ind ($6000) – Remember I said the Colts were bottom in the league against the pass? Well they’re 30th. Vontae is not Vontae this year and Bortles is better than the last 10 years of Jacksonville QBs combined. The Jags offense is healthy and deadly. I think they handle the Colts this week and if you don’t use Bortles make sure you have one of his pass catchers. I am strongly considering him in my cash line ups and of course can be used in GPP as well.
Russell Wilson @ Bal ($6300) – Matt Schaub? Jimmy Clausen? Who cares! You can stack the entire Seattle team and win a GPP this week. Russell is the total chalk quarterback this week, which is great for cash but starts hindering his GPP value. If you use him in GPP go further than a stack with Baldwin, as EVERYONE will have that. I love and hate Russell, though. This is a RUN first offense, which means there is risk in going all in on him. But! (a resounding “but”) You can’t ignore this spot. His defense should provide him with good field position often and that will lead to points. Baltimore is in disarray and the Seahawks are red hot. It’s a perfect recipe.
Tyrod Taylor @ Phi ($5400) – When a guy in your secondary is nicknamed “Toast” and is also the highest paid CB on your team; that is not a good thing. Sammy Watkins has looked pretty good lately and Toast should have no problem living up to his reputation. The Eagles are still a mess, whether they beat NE last week or not. They do not have an identity yet and Buffalo is playing for their playoff hopes. I know the Eagles can win the division still, but…come on. I love Tyrod's ability to run the ball and he is the other guy I am strongly considering in cash games.
Ryan Tannehill vs NYG ($5200) – Tannehill is our Monday night hammer. I mentioned in my Jameis write up that I have a similarly projected QB in a spot with lower ownership, and Tannehill is that guy. The Dolphins have a new offensive coordinator allowing Tannehill to throw only 19 passes last week, and that scares me. But he will be much lower owned, has shown that he has a high ceiling, and plays the second worst pass D in the league. He is GPP only and this type of play can win you big money.
