Working the Wire: Week 6
@IBiggs15 October 13
Week 7 is in the books and some “sleepers” are starting to become household names. This is somewhat of a slim week for waiver targets, but there are some players that are must adds. If you are not in need of players off the wire this week, use it to move up in waiver priority. If your team does need some reinforcements, these players are owned in less than 30% of ESPN fantasy leagues, and won’t be for much longer. Get them while you still can!
If you have any questions on players to drop or just in general direct them to me, @ibiggs15, or @FF_Underground. We are “Dedicated to Your Championship” and enjoy your feedback, I appreciate you all for reading.
- Christine Michael, RB, Dallas Cowboys, 31.5% owned - I know he is above 30% owned, but it isn’t often that a starting running back appears on the wire. Not only is Michael starting, he is running behind what many people call the best offensive line in the NFL. The ceiling is sky high for Michael, but for now he is an RB2/flex play.
- James Starks, RB, Green Bay Packers, 22.3% owned - Following the Packers’ game with the Chargers, Lacy owners are sweating bullets. It seems to be a RBBC (running back by committee) in Green Bay, with the hot hand getting the bulk of the carries. It does not help that Lacy is dealing with an ankle injury that seems to be lingering longer than expected. Next week the Packers have a bye so Lacy could come back Week 8 and resume his starting role, but on the off chance Starks wins the starting job or continues to outperform Lacy he needs to be picked up.
- Brandon LaFell, WR, New England Patriots, 20.5% - LaFell is eligible to return to practice this week and all signs point to him being active for the Patriots’ game against the Jets. Last season LaFell registered 74 receptions, 953 yards, and 7 touchdowns. LaFell’s return couldn’t have come at a better time with Julian Edelman falling victim to a pinky injury. Edelman dropped three passes after his injury and one was intercepted and returned for a touchdown. LaFell should definitely be owned in leagues with 10 teams or more.
- Stefon Diggs, WR, Minnesota Vikings, 3% owned - In the two games without Charles Johnson, Diggs has tallied 13 catches, 19 targets, and 216 yards. With 4.4 wheels, Diggs appears to be the explosive option the Minnesota offense has been looking for, and he displayed that Sunday with three catches of 20 yards or more. To put it in perspective, Mike Wallace only has one catch of 20 plus yards this season. Mike Zimmer would not say if Diggs has taken the starting job from Charles Johnson, but he left open the possibility. Get the talented young WR on your roster while you still can!
- Marvin Jones, WR, Cincinnati Bengals, 29.1% owned - Jones is the WR2 on one of the most prolific offenses in football, while being one of Dalton’s favorite red zone targets. This season Jones has accumulated 38 targets, 24 receptions, 321 yards, and 3 touchdowns. At the moment, Jones is a top 40 receiver and should not go anywhere but up the rankings.
- Ryan Fitzpatrick, QB, New York Jets, 11.3% owned - Fitzpatrick has thrown multiple touchdowns in four out of five games this season. The Jets have a formidable running game, which opens up the passing game for Fitzpatrick. He is prone to throw interceptions, but has a cupcake schedule for most games left this season. In Week 7 the Jets play New England and Buffalo in Week 10, but the rest of their games are against teams like Jacksonville, Oakland, Houston, Miami, New York (Giants), and Dallas. Outside of New England and Buffalo every single defense the Jets face rank 19th or lower against the pass according to footballoutsiders.com. This makes Fitzpatrick a very viable option for players needing help at quarterback in deep leagues or 2QB leagues.
