Working the Wire: Week 6
@IBiggs15 October 13
If you have ever played Fantasy Football you know how important the waiver wire is. I will spare you players like Thomas Rawls and Gary Barnidge as they have been in my “Working the Wire” article in previous weeks. If you have a high waiver order go for the players previously mentioned, but if you have a low waiver order these are the moves for you. These will be players owned in 30% or less of ESPN leagues.
I would love to answer any questions you have on twitter, @ibiggs15, or you can send your questions to @FF_Undergroud. As always, thank you for reading, without you this article would not be relevant!
- Charcandrick West, RB, Kansas City, .3% owned: While a running back by committee appears imminent in KC, West is the RB you want. West is a better pass catcher than Knile Davis and was already seeing more before the injury to Charles. Reid likes to throw passes to the running backs and West figures to get the majority of those targets. With West getting seven carries for 31 yards, in Week 5, compared to Knile Davis’ two carries for two yards the potential is there to be a workhorse.
- Knile Davis, RB, Kansas City, 23.5% owned: In 2014 Davis was given a heavy workload for three games while Jamaal Charles was dealing with an injury. In those three games, Davis averaged 25.67 touches, 118.67 yards, and one touchdown per game. Davis has seen less work than West this season, but the Chiefs have trailed in a majority of their games. West is the better pass catcher, but Knile was thought to be one of the best handcuffs in fantasy football coming into year. Davis should be pursued as his role is going to be expanded.
- Willie Snead, WR, New Orleans, 29% owned: With Cooks finally breaking out you would think Willie Snead was outdone, right? Wrong! Snead led the team in targets (11), receptions (6), and yards (141) in what was a monster day. For now Cooks is still the WR1, but Snead is outperforming him. The past four weeks Snead has scored 16.4, 11.4, 14.9, and 25.1 fantasy points (PPR scoring), and the chemistry between him and Brees is sensational. It seems like when the Saints need a play they go to Snead. With Colston going down to injury Snead can sustain this production. He should be the number one pickup off waivers this week.
- Dwayne Harris, WR, New York Giants, .7% owned: Injuries will need to be monitored for Harris to be a valid pickup. With Cruz expected to miss more games and Beckham and Randle dealing with hamstring injuries, Harris could be the WR1 for the Giants come next week. In the past two weeks Harris has totaled 11 receptions, 14 targets, and 134 yards. The former Cowboy could be a great bye week pickup for teams needing wide receiver depth.
- Marquess Wilson, WR, Chicago, 5.2% owned: Wilson’s fantasy stock will be dependent on the return of Alshon Jeffery and Eddie Royal. If one of those two receivers returns Wilson’s targets will decrease dramatically. Wilson has had back to back weeks of at least six catches and 80 yards. If Wilson continues to lead the Bears receiving corps he will hit those numbers consistently. At 6’4” Wilson has size and athleticism that he displayed with his big plays of 33 and 22 yards last week. The Bears will be playing from behind plenty, and as long as other receivers stay injured, Wilson will get plenty of work.
- Jamison Crowder, WR, Washington, 4.7% owned: The last three weeks Crowder has posted 21 receptions and 197 yards on 26 targets. With the injury history of Desean Jackson and Jordan Reed, Crowder is a good bet to finish second on the Redskins in targets this season. Playing the Jets in Week 6, Crowder is someone to play in deep leagues.
- Ryan Fitzpatrick, QB, New York Jets, 9.7% owned: Fitzpatrick is a bye week fill in option because of his matchup. Washington is ranked 21st against the pass, according to footballoutsiders.com, and Fitzpatrick hasn’t scored less than 16.12 fantasy points in 2015 (standard scoring). Coming off a bye week, look for the Jets to come out aggressive against a porous Washington defense. With Blake Bortles dealing with a shoulder injury and Josh McCown dealing with a brutal matchup, I would play Fitz as my bye week QB.
