#TBT- Drew Brees, QB, New Orleans Saints
@Hoover__26 December 10
In a league dominated by young, athletic players, no position has changed more than quarterback. Case and point, of last week’s top thirty rushers, four were quarterbacks (one, Marcus Mariota, peaked at number three with 112 yards rushing). However, a few traditional quarterbacks still remain that can light up the fantasy scoreboard. One of which is this week’s #TBT, 36 year old Drew Brees.
Brees is the tenth ranked fantasy quarterback (per nfl.com scoring), and put up an impressive three touchdowns against the feared Panthers defense. He has managed to continue to be a threat in fantasy despite putting up only 2.3% of the rushing yards Cam Newton has on the season (crazy but true, Brees has only 11 rushing yards this year). What Brees lacks in height, he makes up for in field vision. Some players (Johnny Manziel comes to mind) who are “vertically challenged” for an NFL QB simply have a ton of trouble seeing over offensive linemen. Brees, however, has an incredible ability to find receivers downfield despite standing at 6’ even (maybe a little generous, but I can’t say for sure).
Very few people have embodied a franchise the way Drew Brees has in New Orleans. A lot of players have played for the same team for a really long time, but not many have been the heart and soul of a team quite like Drew. Even fewer, however, can continue to play at a tremendous pace as long as Brees has. Drew is fourth in passing yards this year, and tied an NFL record with seven touchdown passes in a game against the Giants (the other record holders are Sid Luckman, Adrian Burk, George Blanda, Y.A. Tittle, Joe Kapp, Peyton Manning and Nick Foles).
Drew Brees is this week’s #TBT, and is having some serious throwback games this season!
