#MCM- Victor Oladipo, SG, Orlando Magic
-Hoover26 November 2
This week’s #MCM is one of the most exciting young guards in the league. At 6’4”, 210 lbs, and athletic as the day is long, Oladipo is the prototypical NBA combo guard.
While he may not yet have the shooting touch we have come to expect from his position, he certainly has plenty of other talents. His hands are exceptionally fast, finishing in the top ten in steals in 2013-2014 (basketball-reference.com). He is one of the top dunkers in the league, and participated in last year’s dunk contest. And, after watching him drain a would-be game winner against the Thunder (which was thwarted by Russell Westbrook’s forty footer as time expired), and then a step-back three to send the game into triple overtime, he obviously responds well to pressure.
The Orlando Magic have a much more talented roster than a lot of people think. With Oladipo and Elfrid Payton in the backcourt, Tobias Harris on the wing, and Nikola Vucevic at center, these Magic could surprise people. However, with most of the rotation lacking in shooting ability (other than Evan Fournier and Mario Hezonja), Oladipo might be asked to take a lot more shots. That is good for fantasy owners, as Oladipo has averaged only about one three pointer per game in his three year career.
Oladipo had high fantasy expectations coming into this year, as his average draft position (espn.com) was about 35th. So far, Victor has been able to more than live up to said expectations. I just can’t say enough about Oladipo’s fantasy value; not only for this season, but seasons to come. The Magic’s oldest starter is only 25 (Vucevic), and they have only two players over 30. Oladipo is leading the pack of the next generation NBA power-house teams. His Orlando Magic have started this season 0-3, but they certainly have the potential to be a contender in the coming years.
Victor Oladipo is a young fantasy star, and more than deserves the title of this week’s #MCM.
