#TBT - Brandon Marshall, WR, New York Jets, Age 31
-NM41 August 27
It’s Thursday, which means #ThrowBackThursday at the Fantasy Football Underground. My underrated old man this week is Brandon Marshall. Brandon Marshall is entering his 10th season in the league at the somewhat unfavorable age of 31. He is on to the New York Jets, his fourth NFL team. He had a very disappointing 2014 season statistically - the worst since his rookie year with the Broncos in 2006. I believe people may be jumping ship on him too quickly though, and he still has some big numbers left in him.
He entered the 2014 season projected to be a top 5 WR, so the talent is clearly there. Marshall’s 2014 slump was not a result of an eroding skill set, but rather pesky injuries keeping him off the field for 3 games and him not being 100% for the games he did suit up, which is an unusual thing for Marshall, as he played in every game the previous three season.
As we enter the 2015 season, he is ranked by most as barely a top 20 WR. I feel that's too harsh. His situation isn't the best this year, which is why I think people have him ranked so low. I'm here to tell you that his situation is not as bad as people make it out to be. Granted, the Jets are already starting the year with their second string QB. But they still have many offensive weapons which should take attention off of Marshall. While there are other targets in New York, Marshall should be the focal point of an improved Jets offense, receiving more volume than he did last year in Chicago. Look for him to get back to his 1,000 yard form that he held for 7 straight years prior to last. He is still the 6’4” 230 pound athletic freak that cornerbacks should fear. He is a low risk, high reward pick. So look forward to seeing a big year out of him.
