#MCM- Emmanuel Sanders, WR, Denver Broncos
@Hoover__26 December 21
My man crush on Emmanuel Sanders goes way back, well before he joined the Broncos. Back in the days when he wore the yellow and black, Sanders was the forgotten man in a threesome of great receivers. While Antonio Brown and Mike Wallace received most of the attention, Sanders was proving himself as a real star in this game. While he topped out at 67 receptions in a season with the Steelers, he showed us that he could thrive if given the opportunity to be higher in the depth chart. Now in his second season with Denver, Sanders is coming off a 101 reception season, and is on pace for 82 this year.
Despite Peyton Manning’s struggles (due to injury and age) and the dawning of the Brock Osweiler era, Emmanuel Sanders has been able to thrive where some of his teammates have faltered. He has quickly built a rapport with the young quarterback, which was evident in his 16 target, 10 reception game on Sunday which included 181 yards and a touchdown. While Sanders hasn’t been able to repeat his success of last year (who would have, given the circumstances?), he has made his case as a must-play receiver. His combo of speed, hands and route running ability make him a threat against any matchup. Sanders has a drop rate of only 1.6 percent (sportingcharts.com), which puts him ahead of guys like DeAndre Hopkins (long considered to have the best hands in the league) and Julio Jones. Only three players with as many receptions as Sanders have a lower drop rate than him (Antonio Brown, Delanie Walker and Larry Fitzgerald).
Another amazing thing about Sanders is the fact that he stands at only 5’11”. He lacks the size of traditional star receivers, but he makes up for that with the ability to get open all the time, and create separation between himself and the defender.
Emmanuel Sanders is this week’s #MCM. He is a guy you have to keep an eye on whenever he is on the field, because he can have a huge game on any given day!
