#MCM- C.J. Anderson, RB, Denver Broncos
@Hoover__26 November 30
Last season, C.J. Anderson burst on to the fantasy scene, leading the Denver Broncos rushing attack. His outburst of production last year led to him being the eleventh player drafted on average (espn.com leagues), before guys like Odell Beckham Jr., Julio Jones and Tom Brady. However, Anderson didn’t do much to justify that super-high draft position in the early season. In fact, many frustrated owners dropped Anderson (who was most likely their first or second pick) for a waiver wire back. Someone did that very thing in week three of one of my nfl.com leagues, and I promptly added Anderson for Andre Johnson.
Over the years, there has been countless first round busts, in both fantasy drafts and real ones. However, knowing when a bust is really a bust, and not just a slump, is a hard thing to do. I always say, stick with your early rounders as long as possible. You don’t even have to start them, just don’t give up on them, because a player only becomes a bust when people stop believing he can succeed. C.J. Anderson didn’t eclipse the fifty yard mark until week eight, which isn’t exactly promising for a early round back. However, this week’s #MCM is proving the doubters wrong. Everyone who dropped him before the Broncos’ week 8 game versus the Packers missed out on the start of a hot streak. Since the Broncos defeated Green Bay, Anderson is averaging 5.8 yards per carry, which would be good enough for first in the league among running backs. Anderson also exploded for 113 yards and a pair of touchdowns Sunday against the Patriots, including a huge game-winning run where he showcased pretty much everything that makes him a great running back. At 224 pounds, Anderson can bully his way through even the strongest defensive lines. At only 5’8”, his low center of gravity makes him hard to tackle. Not to mention shiftiness, and surprising open field speed for someone as stocky as himself.
C.J. Anderson was said to be one of the biggest fantasy busts in recent memory. However, he has set out to prove everyone wrong. Anderson is running wild on defenses, and is certainly deserving of this week’s #MCM.
