#TBT- Matt Hasselbeck, QB, Indianapolis Colts
@Hoover__26 November 12
Matt Hasselbeck is forty. Those words are all you need to hear to know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that he is a true throwback. Hasselbeck was a very productive player back in the day, after he won the Seattle starting job from Trent Dilfer. However, since he left the Seahawks, Hasselbeck hasn’t been the fantasy mainstay he once was. He spent a few years with the Titans, which were not fantasy explosions. He landed in Indy as a mentor to Andrew Luck, but now that Luck is injured for the second time this year, the ageless wonder will have to step in and take the reigns of this crazy colt of an offense.
Long before you could play fantasy football on your iPhone, Matt Hasselbeck was Seattle’s star front man. He took the team to the Super Bowl, and was as reliable as anyone. And, it looks like he might be on track for a throwback year this season. If you average out the fantasy points from the two games he played, and distribute them over the entire year, Hasselbeck would be ranked 12th for quarterbacks (per nfl.com stats and scoring). Now that the Colts offense actually has some life, Hasselbeck might be able to but up the kind of numbers we haven’t seen in awhile from someone at his (ahem) advanced age.
What really amazes me is the fact that Hasselbeck is only owned in 0.4% of nfl.com leagues. I understand the fact that he’s forty, and usually a backup, but it seems with all the injuries and disappointments at his position, more people would take a chance on him. I know I will certainly be adding him.
Matt Hasselbeck is this week’s #TBT, and for good reason. He is the oldest quarterback in the NFL, and could push your fantasy team to some very solid wins.
