#TBT- J.J. Redick, SG, Los Angeles Clippers
@Hoover__26 December 24
For the second week in a row, #TBT falls on not only a major day in sports, but a holiday. This New Year’s Eve, I will be talking about the man who seemingly continues to evolve, regardless of age. J.J. Redick is 31 years old, and has been a Clipper since 2013 (his third team in the NBA). Redick has grown into the role of one of the best shooters in the NBA in Los Angeles, as the below chart shows:
Redick is currently ranked sixth in the NBA in True Shooting Percentage (sportingcharts.com), which shows how efficient he is when shooting the ball. He is also ranked in the top fifty in the NBA in Points Produced, which is a stat that measures how many points a player creates during a game (sportingcharts.com). While it may look like Redick is a lost man in an offense that includes guys like Chris Paul, Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan, Redick is actually second on the team in scoring against Eastern Conference teams (third overall).
As far as fantasy goes, Redick is a must-have for owners in need of three pointers. He averages 2.5 of them per game, and has averaged 3.5 in his last ten games (espn.com). Redick can absolutely drain shots from downtown, which is an invaluable skill to have as you get older. Athleticism may fade, foot speed may slow down, but shooting touch rarely deteriorates too much (which explains how sharpshooters like Ray Allen and Reggie Miller were able to play for so long).
J.J. Redick is this week’s #TBT. He can make you think that he isn’t going to score, and then go on a scoring spree as soon as you relax. Don’t sleep on him, and don’t leave him open from long range!
